My advice:
Think you shouldn't cut out too much from the top. Best to keep the engine a little bit from the rain (my spark plugs drowned once) and only allow a small gap for the heat to escape when driving slowly or stopped. The GT3 cars all changed to closed bonnets to help aerodynamics.
Make sure you have free flow inlets from the sides and a large section open at the back (not sure if that will bring you into trouble with noise limits ). Have radiators at much as possible in the front or bottom of the car
Perhaps consider forced airflow like the Artega?

Can I assume your not going to use the boot anymore?
Would like to see the same picture with just two square vent holes, instead of six small ones. The area for ventilation seems small compared to the oem ones in the boot cover. The black area between the rear lights must be additional vent.

Think I may fit one of those, to get rid of exhaust/turbo heat when standing still, with the opening inwards at 10-15cm from the front/top of the bonnet and the small side towards the back of the car. (carbonmods.co.uk):

Thanks very much for your interest guys. My first idea was not to cut anything, so just keeping the central Lexan but because of turbo exhaust, it could be a problem. Be also aware I have side vents incorporated as shown on picture so fresh air will get easily inside, and should also get out easily because it will be wide open behind.
Perhaps I could first not cut, and then see the result on engine bay temperature...
@Herman: Very good idea for the nacas on top and right hand side !

Replacing the alu chassis by Carbon Fibre too?
Nice collection of pics. Impressive work so far, to say the least.

| Any plans on upgrading the 290 bhp, or is the focus only on loosing weight?

I would like to finish the chassis first, so still the third part of my light weight list to do, perhaps next winter.

I've done some measurements today.
When driving, no problem at all, the temperature in the engine bay is only 4-6 degrees above outside temperature
When parked, no air-flow, the temperature rises quickly to 99 degrees Celsius (although car is in the shadow, outside temp 17degr.). On a hot summerday, it should be possible to boil an egg in there
With a small opening (narrow gap 2 x 30cm) temperature dropped to values between 60 and 70. Don't think that is a problem for the car when the temperature stays below 80 degrees, provided the engine air intake gets fresh air. For the moment I'm going to start with one gap of 2.5 x 14cm. Then measure for a longer period of time (Video-VBOX will be doing that automaticaly in a couple of weeks). When needed, I'll make the gap bigger.
Another option is to have more thermal isolation on the exhaust. Don't want to do that too much, could end up overheating lambda sensors and cat.

Thank you very much Herman ! Very interesting figures. The Lexan can resist 150°C, so it's already a good news. Perhaps the best solution would be to add a small ventilator (manual switch inboard) getting the hot air outside when stopped...?
